Casts From the Past XXXII
Casts From the Past is a recurring retrospective of select Palladio GFRG projects.
In our line of work, “breaking the mould” is usually frowned upon.
Unless, of course, we’re breaking out of our classical-dominated interiors to create modern pieces – like these 3D wall tiles for a chain of health clinics in the NY area.
Bet you think we’re going to make some bad pun about blowing our own horn.
Nope! Just going to show you this trumpet-shaped light housing that Palladio GFRG composed to bring some bright notes to a Japanese luxury retailer.
Care to guess the name of each element in Palladio GFRG’s latest moulding project?
Bay Leaf 2. Leaf and dart 3. Bead and reel
This moulding is part of a historic restoration of one of the more prominent buildings in Georgia.
Sculptural elements in mouldings are used over and over, even thousands of years later.
This first pic here is actually a 2000+ year old example from a Roman ruin we viewed on a trip through Croatia. The second picture is from Tuesday’s post. You can see eerily similar leaf work, darts, and even the bead and reel.
What is the Palladio GFRG crew bringing to the stage today?

After some rehearsal to get its lines correct, the team replicated this grill so it can debut for a very famous Times Square theatre. It was “cast” perfectly! 😉
