Casts From the Past XXV

Casts From the Past is a recurring retrospective of select Palladio GFRG projects.

One of our Palladio GFRG craftsman producing interlocking pieces of a frieze for the Palm Beach Cartier. Once complete and installed, this eye-pleaser will be 10' tall by 24' wide.

How do you top a square room with a circular dome? With pendentives!

This week, Palladio GFRG is preparing this mold to cast the four sections of a pendentive dome. Pendentive domes are cut straight on four sides creating a square or rectangle with four arched openings.

We apologize for this little bit of rope-a-dope. These lengths of “rope” are actually plaster casts created by the Palladio GFRG crew.

Now that we’ve captured the realism that was vital to our client’s design, these will be shipped and installed at the project site in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Ever wonder what the top of a column is called?

Columns are topped off by "capitals". Like these pieces waiting to be shipped off to one of our large retail clients in SoHo New York, capitals are not just opportunities for stunning décor, they can function as mitigators of the weight bearing down on the column below.

When is wood completely non-combustible?

Never! 😉 That’s why our clients asked us to mimic the texture of wood in fireproof glass fiber reinforced gypsum. Here’s the result, which will be winging its way to a project in Singapore.
