Casts From the Past is a recurring retrospective of select Palladio GFRG projects.

Very few realize that plaster craftspeople are also accomplished botanists. Here we’re creating a species of oak leaf that – even in autumn – will never fall from their frieze above a mantel in a Manhattan residence.

When the number of rosettes you’ve carved in a lifetime exceeds your memory capacity, fashioning one from a mis-sized reference isn’t as miraculous as it seems. It certainly helps that only one rosette quarter needs to be moulded to create the entire piece

As the oak trees come out of their deep freeze, we celebrate with this here pic of an oak frieze! And now you know why I committed myself to plaster and not poetries.

These massive columns for Hermes Paris locations in the USA are over 12 feet tall and 2 feet thick. But because they are composed of multiple layers of fiberglass veil soaked in alpha gypsum with plywood embedments, they tip the scales at under 200 pounds.

A meticulously cut metal profile is employed to spin out a reverse mold in GFRG (Glass-Fiber Reinforced Gypsum) for the Hermes Paris project.
