Casts From the Past XX

Casts From the Past is a recurring retrospective of select Palladio GFRG projects.

In our Architectural Digest featured project, rescued pieces from the pre-demolition family area were employed to create new cornices, pilasters, and ceiling mouldings, complementing new windows that overlooking San Francisco bay and its legendary landmarks.

In our Architectural Digest featured project, the master bedroom’s ceiling was entirely updated with a stunning pattern, featuring florally-softened geometrics.

In our Architectural Digest featured project, new and restored mouldings were manufactured for the living area. Once the whole ensemble was shipped, installed, and accessorized, the result was undeniably striking.

Four casts from the plaster mould in the first photo below allowed us to create the groin vault in the second picture. As all architectural trivia masters know, groin vaults are composed of two barrel vaults whose centers intersect at right angles.

Many methods and processes for plaster moulding can be found in the seminal works by Millar or Stagg and Pegg.  But solutions are often discovered by accepting every project as singular and drawing them out in sketches like this.
