Casts From the Past XXXIII

Casts From the Past is a recurring retrospective of select Palladio GFRG projects.

Work continues on an immense replacement for the face of a theatre balcony. The difficulty lies, not in its size, but the necessity of seamlessly matching the other existent balconies.

Traditionally, friezes were often above one’s eye-line and removed from scrutiny. So, in our modern age, we bring this 3D model of an undulate frieze ornament to where you can see and appreciate.

When putting together his Handbook of Ornament over a century ago, it’s unlikely Franz Meyer foresaw we’d be creating a digital 3D model of the undulated band 6 in plate 94.

A one-of-a-kind, Palladio designed frieze for a NYC client with a penchant for oak leaves and acorns. The squirrel appeared from nowhere 😊 adding whimsy and something for the visual treasure-seekers.

A good example of proper “dentil care” 😊. Once the final details are complete, this cornice will be molded, cast, and shipped to the equally classy people of Chopard in New York.
