Casts From the Past XVII

Casts From the Past is a recurring retrospective of select Palladio GFRG projects.

Old tech can still be useful tech. This pilaster shaft will be reproduced with a plaster mold instead of silicone rubber. Plaster, or reverse molds, are quicker, cheaper, and an acceptable method when only a few casts are needed.

We manufactured these soffits in light-weight, sturdy glass-fiber reinforced gypsum. Producing them with these unique curves and exact sizes negates the need for time-consuming cutting and fitting on site.

Here we are finishing the pattern for a frieze and entablature that will soon be part of a door surround.

This cornice is getting some “dentil” work before its big day when it will be married to a door surround pediment and live happily ever plaster.
